In a world tempted by withdrawal, art has to be shared. It forges deep ties between men, artists and humanity. It brings commitment, confidence, hope and optimism to everyone. Paint the City’s mission is to provide art to all, through mediums that create unprecedented opportunities to communicate artistic messaging and inspiration. By hyperexposing artwork outside the traditional context of museums and galleries, Paint the City creates unique platforms for an unparalleled public encounter with the art of our time.
History of PTC
Launched in 2013, Paint the City (PTC) is devoted to providing art to all, through mediums that create unprecedented opportunities to communicate artistic messaging and inspiration. Initially established in 2009, PTC and its founders have worked together to turn the idea of art for all into a tangible reality.
This idea, this dream was originally evoked by co-founder and president, James Manfredi, who as a 3rd-generation sign builder from Staten Island, often longed to know more and to learn more about the art of his time. However, due to various restraints, he seldom frequented a gallery or museum to do so. During his tenure as the VP of Operations at Allvision, an outdoor asset management company, James decided it was time to turn his love for art and his industry expertise into a public display of art for all through the unique utilization of 4 billboards throughout the New York City area.
These original 4 billboards highlighted positive messaging and artistic inspiration, and allowed millions of people, regardless of demographic stature, to experience the transformative beauty of art throughout their daily lives. This art, hyper exposed outside the traditional context of gallery and museum walls, created a unique platform for an unparalleled public encounter with the art of our time.
This democratic and artistic realization paved the way for the foundation of Paint the City, an organization now providing daily art to millions of people throughout New York and Canada, with the hopes to continue and expand upon it’s mission, worldwide.
