Artist Statement: The focus of the art I make is to demonstrate connection to the environment. I am from Coast Salish background and my art reflects that in the Northwest Coast style. Painting is my preferred medium of choice. It is my intention to express a fluctuation of emerging and submerging forms, resulting in a malleable field of vision. The Northwest Coast design inspires within me a unified vision of the world. Painting becomes the direct experience that brings these dreams, beliefs and imaginings into being. The scope of the imagination is boundless therefore the intake of new ideas is continually evolving and changing. These changes can be felt within the body’s communication system of emotion. The emotions inform the visual imagery in the form of tone, colours and texture. The dynamism and interplay between colours give the paintings an ebb and flow of rejuvenation and decay.
