PTC’s Digital Art(Net)work Presents: Skai Fowler

Bio: Skai Fowler, a Vancouver based visual artist, has exhibited paintings and photographs nationally and internationally since 1987. She graduated from Emily Carr College of Art and Design in photography and interdisciplinary studies in 1985. As an arts administrator with the City of Vancouver in the Office of Cultural Affairs, she developed and coordinated the Community Public Art Program. With the community-based organization, collective echoes, she mentored young emerging artists in conceiving, developing and implementing artwork in public places. Currently she works as a scenic artist for theatre at Great Northern Way Scene Shop, and sits on the Board for the Arts Factory. She teaches digital photography, and is an adjunct professor teaching scenic painting at the University of British Columbia in the Theatre and Film Dept and at Emily Carr University. In May 2013 she was an artist in residence at The Banff Centre for the Arts, working on a series of large canvases re-visioning the badlands at the Dinosaur Park UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Her work is in private collections in Vancouver, New York, Budapest and Glasgow; and in institutions such as Canada Council Art Bank and Export Development Canada. She has received Canada Council and BC Arts Councils Grants and a Vancouver Foundation VADA Award.
